FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

As part of my commitment to offering the best care and experiences I can, I encourage you to ask questions throughout the therapeutic process. There’s no such thing as a bad question when it comes to mental health.

  • How do I get started?
The best way to start is by emailing or phoning me. We will find a time for a brief consult during which you can tell me more about what you are experiencing and are looking for help with. I will ask you some questions and answer yours and from there, we may decide to schedule a first session.
  • And then what?
In our initial session, we will discuss your concerns and challenges and will evaluate our initial goodness of 'fit'. You may have heard this mentioned before; it refers to your level of comfort with me and whether my professional experience tracks well with what you are needing help with. During our first 2-4 sessions, I conduct a thorough evaluation including your history and current challenges and level of functioning. For couples, this will take on elements of individual evaluation as well as the history of your current and past relationships.
  • How long and how often will we meet?
A therapeutic hour ranges from 45-50 minutes. At times, I meet with people on a case by case basis for a longer session. We will meet for a weekly session, as consistently as possible at a regularly scheduled time. For planned absences, I will give you advanced notice and ask that you do the same. I have a cancellation policy of 24 hours.
  • What are your fees? Are you covered by OHIP?
Services are not covered by OHIP. I charge an hourly fee of $250 CAD for individual therapy, consultation and assessment. Assessment tools may incur a one-time additional material cost. Couples therapy sessions are based on an hourly fee of $275 CAD. My fees are aligned with the recommended fee schedule published by the Ontario Psychological Association. I am licensed and board certified in both Ontario and California meaning that I can provide therapy to residents in either location. Fees for psychological services are generally covered by Extended Health Benefit Plans. I recommend checking information regarding how much coverage you are entitled to annually, and whether you need a referral from a physician or can self-refer. Fees not covered by benefit plans can be deducted as a medical expense from your personal income tax. You will be responsible for payment of sessions cancelled within the 24-hour cancellation policy. I have a limited number of sliding scale spaces available to patients who would otherwise not be able to afford therapy. This may, in some cases, involve a brief course of therapy.
  • Do you offer in person appointments or virtual sessions?
I offer both! I meet with people for in-person sessions in my office in downtown Toronto located near St. George and Bloor street. The nearest subway station is St. George which is on subway lines 1 &2. The building includes free parking. I also meet with people via an online platform called OWL that is PHIPA compliant and double encrypted to protect your confidentiality. I meet with people throughout Ontario and in the state of California. My office is on the second floor of a building that does not have an elevator. If you have mobility issues and are interested in pursuing treatment, we can meet for sessions virtually or I could help to arrange an appropriate referral.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
A 24 hours notice is required to move or cancel an appointment. If you are booked for an in-person session and prefer to meet virtually, your session can be changed to a virtual appointment at the same scheduled time. Full session fees will be applied for appointments cancelled or missed with less than 24 hours notice.
